Pickleball Paddle Approval & Tournament Legality Checker
Free tournament equipment checker
Check your paddle before tournament day.
Search The Pickleball Wise paddle catalog, choose your event type, and see the approval evidence we can verify for the exact model. The checker keeps USA Pickleball and UPA-A status separate because the requirements are not identical.
Approval snapshot checked: October 7, 2026 · Always use the linked official list as the final pre-event check.

Why there are two approval systems
USA Pickleball maintains the Approved Paddle List used for USA Pickleball equipment compliance. Players are responsible for confirming that the exact paddle used for match play is currently listed as Pass.
UPA-A operates a separate certification system for UPA professional competition. In 2026, UPA-A certification is required for professional divisions at PPA and MLP events, including PPA Challenger Series and Pro Qualifiers. UPA-A says amateur competition can still use a paddle with current USA Pickleball certification even when UPA-A certification is not mandatory.
How to use this checker correctly
- Match the exact model. “Perseus,” “Perseus IV 16mm” and “Perseus Pro V 16mm” are not interchangeable names.
- Choose the event type. The certification system that matters depends on the competition.
- Look for an official record. A direct USA Pickleball record is stronger evidence than a retailer claim or old product page.
- Read any compliance warning. A model can be under investigation or removed after initially appearing on an approval list.
- Verify live before the event. This tool reduces search friction; the governing body’s current list remains the final source.
Current USA Pickleball compliance alerts
USA Pickleball maintains a separate compliance report for paddles under investigation, removed from the approved list, or otherwise reviewed. The checker flags current entries from that report when the selected model can be matched. A normal approval entry should therefore not be treated as a permanent guarantee.
What “Blackout Only” means on the UPA-A list
The UPA-A approved list can display a Blackout icon. UPA-A explains that these entries require the Blackout version at Pro PPA and MLP events. Because this page does not independently infer that icon from every row, professional players should always open the live UPA-A record before competition.
Approval is not the same as individual-paddle condition
A model can be approved while an individual paddle has been modified, damaged, degraded or otherwise become non-compliant. Tournament inspection and field testing can therefore raise a separate issue from the base model’s original certification.

Methodology
The search box uses The Pickleball Wise paddle catalog. USA Pickleball is shown as verified only when our current catalog contains a direct official USA Pickleball equipment-record URL for that exact entry. Otherwise the checker deliberately returns “verify live” rather than inferring approval from a manufacturer or retailer page.
The UPA-A status uses a dated snapshot of the official UPA-A Certified Paddles List for the major/current models represented below. If an exact model is not found, the result is “not confirmed in this snapshot,” not “not certified.” Current governing-body pages always override this cached snapshot.

FAQ
If the checker says “not locally verified,” is my paddle illegal?
No. It means this page does not currently have enough exact official data cached to make a positive claim. Open the official governing-body list and search the exact model.
Do amateurs at PPA events need UPA-A certification?
UPA-A says its certification is required for professional competition; amateur play can use current USA Pickleball certification under the 2026 policy. Always read the specific event’s current instructions.
Can a paddle lose approval?
Yes. USA Pickleball can investigate or remove equipment after certification if later compliance testing identifies a problem.
Does a printed approval logo prove current legality?
No. Logos do not update when status changes. The current official equipment list is the stronger check.
